5 Unique Features of an Italian Wedding You Probably Didn’t Know About

Every country has its own unique wedding traditions. Today, I’ll share with you 5 features of an Italian wedding that you might not know about.

  1. It’s not customary to give flowers as a gift at Italian weddings, as the couple has already ordered plenty of flowers for the wedding decorations. Here’s just one example of how beautifully the area for the wedding ceremony in Italy is arranged.

  1. Italian women don’t strictly follow a dress code and often choose long evening dresses in dark tones like navy blue, black, or burgundy.

  1. Gifts are no longer given in person, but instead transferred to the couple's bank account, often days or weeks before the wedding. The bride and groom include their bank account number on the invitations, and voilà – send your gift there!

  1. During the wedding, Italians don’t typically make toasts. However, they do enjoy playfully teasing the couple and, at the end of the wedding, they ask for a "discorso" – a toast, or more accurately, a toast of gratitude.

  1. An essential feature of an Italian wedding is the bomboniere. These sweet little gifts are given to guests by the couple at the end of the celebration. It’s a great gesture because it gives the couple a chance to personally thank each guest for sharing their most important day with them.

These are just 5 features of an Italian wedding!
